Myopia (Nearsightedness) Control Methods Review:

The goal of myopia control is to slow down or stop nearsightedness (myopia) from getting worse. Here's some general information about using optical methods to achieve this goal. If you want more details, you can call us 21530008.

The Normal Eye

It's best for images to be focused directly on the retina in the back of the eye so that you can see clearly both in the center and around the edges of your vision. If the image is focused behind the retina, it can make your eyes longer and cause nearsightedness to get worse. The higher the myopia, the longer the eyeball becomes, and this can cause damage to the retina. People with high myopia have a higher risk of developing eye problems such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.

Ordinary Myopic Eyeglasses

When someone has trouble seeing things far away, we call it myopia or nearsightedness. To fix it, we use lenses with a minus prescription to move the focus back to the right spot on the retina. But regular lenses are like the lens in a camera, and they make the edges of what you see blurry. This makes your eyes work harder to see clearly, and can make myopia worse over time.

As a parent, you want the best for your child's eye health, and we share the same goal. That's why optometrists and researchers worldwide have dedicated their efforts to developing effective ways to control myopia progression in children. There are now three "defocus" prototypes available, including Orthokeratology, Defocus incorporated soft contact lenses, and Peripheral defocus eyeglasses. Our optometrist will carefully evaluate your child's needs and lifestyle to determine the best method to help them manage their myopia and preserve their vision for the future. You can trust that we are committed to providing your child with the best possible care.

Generally, the strength and effect of MCT nearsightedness risk control methods follows the following sequence:
Orthokeratology 88% > Peripheral defocus (DIMS) eyeglasses 59% > Defocus incorporated soft contact lens 50%

(Data from same institute: HK PolyU. 研究數據由同一機構公布:香港理工大學)** difference studies used different statistical models, thus, the effectiveness of different studies cannot be directly compared. For detail, please consult our optometrists. ** 因每個研究採用不同的統計方法,各研究的功效不能直接比較。詳情請向我們的眼科視光師查詢!

We have some new soft contact lenses called concentric defocus lenses that can help control your child's myopia, which is when they have trouble seeing things far away. These lenses are specially designed to slow down the progression of myopia, and they work differently than regular contact lenses. They have an extra power that creates a new focal point in front of the retina, which can help stop the eyeball from growing too long. So, you can trust that these lenses may be a good option for your child's eye health.

As a parent, you want to do everything you can to protect your child's eyesight. That's why we want to share with you a special type of spectacle lens called MyioSmart and Sellest, which is designed to help control your child's myopia (nearsightedness). These lenses are different from ordinary lenses, because they have multiple plus power dots (micro lens segments) that alter the prescription at the peripheral area of the lens. This helps limit and prevent the peripheral focal plane from being focused at the back of the retina, which can effectively limit or slow down the progression of myopia in children. These lenses use advanced peripheral defocus lens technology to give your child the best chance at maintaining healthy eyesight.

Reminder: To ensure the myopia control lenses work as effectively as possible, it's important to use frames that are specifically designed for these lenses and to wear them in the right position. That's why we offer frames that are a perfect fit for DIMS MyioSmart, HALT Sellest, MyoVision, and Myopilux Max lenses, and we have all the necessary equipment, tools, and guidelines to fit these lenses properly.
