| eyehk | : | Color blindness / Color deficiency Definition: -difficulties in distinguishing colors -usually related to inheritance Classifications: -Normal color vision of retina dependent on three types of cone cells. They absorb RED, GREEN and BLUE respectively. -When the three types of cone cells being stimulated in different extends, various color can be experienced. -The loss of cone cell function of any color is the chief cause of color vision defect. -Difficulties in RED discrimination is "PROTANOPIA" -Difficulties in GREEN discrimination is "DEUTANOPIA" -Difficulties in BLUE discrimination is "TRITANOPIA" -Totally lack of color vision (gray scale vision only) is called TOTAL COLOR BLINDNESS. -Depending on the severity, patient can be classified as color deficiency (mild case) or color blindness (sever case). There are some limitation of career selection for color vision blindness: -Because of the influence of color vision defects in daily life, education and career would be affected, sometimes. -Jobs with difficulties usually experienced by color defect patient: -firemen -police -doctors -jobs need high performance of color vision -Therapy: -There is no cure of color vision at this moment -occasionally, the color vision of patient can be enhance slightly by some red color filter of spectacles and contact lenses. |
